Taipei, Taiwan May 2004- Axper announces
its XP series of motherboards support Intel's next generation
Pentium® 4 Prescott processor. With Prescott support
means not only the benefits of Hyper-Threading technology
inherent to the Intel® Pentium® 4, but also the
higher clock speed and performance gains of the new 90nm
Intel® Pentium® 4 Prescott. Currently, two models
within this series support the new processor and many
more will be added to this list. Please go to our website
at http://axper.com
for an updated list of Prescott-supported models.
The
90nm Pentium 4 Prescott Processor: Design and Benefits
Like the older generation Intel Pentium® 4 processors,
the design of the new Pentium® 4 Prescott processor
is based on Intel's NetBurst micro-architecture. However,
alterations in this core architecture have led to gains
in overall system performance through the increase in
clock frequency and cache size. For instance, Prescott's
new deeper pipelined has resulted in a significant impact
on the core's performance and future scalability. Its
extra 11 pipeline stages allows for the increased clock
speeds while its 90nm architecture allows for the additional
cache through a reduced die size.
Both the L1 and L2 cache sizes have doubled. The L1
data cache is now 16KB, while the L2 unified (data and
instruction) cache size is now 1MB to offer improved
processing efficiency. As well, new SSE3 instructions
of the IntelR Pentium® 4 Prescott provide enhancements
in the field of multimedia and gaming development with
available functions such as floating point to integer
conversions, complex arithmetic functions, video encoding
and thread synchronization.
Thus, the Intel® Pentium® 4 Prescott builds
on the strong architectural foundation of its predecessors
to bring increased processing speed and heightened performance
to the Axper XP series platform. Experience next generation
